Innovation in building retrofits for energy efficiency and demand response
NOVICE will develop and demonstrate a new business model in building renovation to better monetize energy efficiency by consolidating services and subsequent revenue streams from both energy savings and demand response.

GOAL
NOVICE'S main goal is to develop and demonstrate an innovative business model for Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) that will provide energy savings to buildings and Demand Response (DR) services to the grid after renovating buildings or blocks of buildings.

MAIN OBJECTIVES
Engage and train new actors and stakeholders (aggregators, ESCOs, technology providers, FMs, engineering consultants) Address regulatory, market, technological and financial barriers for dual energy services in building renovation Prescribe the building energy renovation technologies that increase demand response flexibility and energy efficiency Develop an innovative business model and a new Energy Performance Contracting template providing dual energy services

WHY CHOOSE THE NOVICE MODEL
Engage and train new actors and stakeholders (aggregators, ESCOs, technology providers, FMs, engineering consultants) Address regulatory, market, technological and financial barriers for dual energy services in building renovation Prescribe the building energy renovation technologies that increase demand response flexibility and energy efficiency Develop an innovative business model and a new Energy Performance Contracting template providing dual energy services

PROJECT PLAN
The NOVICE plan entails the initiation of at least three agreements between ESCOs and Aggregators in the most mature European markets. Five workshops and three webinars will be organized for stakeholders, to be educated in the NOVICE approach in building energy upgrades. Complementary outreach activities involve three surveys amongst ESCOs, Aggregators and End Users.
On 29th of October, at 15:30, Jo Southernwood from IERC International Energy Research Centre will present the results of the NOVICE project in the Flexibility 2.0 workshop at the Sustainable Places 2020.

Do you wonder whether #DemandResponse can benefit #EPC projects?
We tested the NOVICE dual energy service model in a supermarket in Ireland.
EPC payback period can be reduced by up to 16% after participation in DR schemes.
